Abstract

Ethnopharmacology is a field that studies the use of plants as drugs with
pharmacological effects. Traditional healers in Air Napal Sub-district, North
Bengkulu Regency, have traditionally used local knowledge about the use of
medicinal plants to prevent and treat diarrheal diseases. The purpose of this study
was to determine how many families of medicinal plants exist, what parts of the
plant (rhizomes, stems, and leaves) are medicinal, and how to manage medicinal
plants used by traditional healers in Air Napal District, North Bengkulu Regency,
to treat diarrhea. The sampling technique in this research is total sampling. The
methods used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis
technique used was descriptive-quantitative using the citation method (%). The
results of the study showed information on 11 medicinal plants to treat diarrhea
obtained from 10 traditional healers in Air Napal District. Traditional healers
employ the following plants to treat their patients: sapodilla guava, castor oil
plant, white tumeric, marsh fleabane, goat weed, kepok banana, pale catechu,
turmeric, cutcherry, and shallots. The Myrtaceae family has the most cited family
with a 25% citation percentage. Plant parts used by traditional healers are
leaves, fruits, sap, and tubers. The most widely used part is the leaf, with a
citation percentage of 54.16 percent. There are 5 ways of management used by
traditional healers, namely: chopped, grated, withered, burned, and boiled. The
most common way of managing medicinal plants is by boiling them with a citation
percent of 25%. This research is expected to provide information to the
community about the use of various types of medicinal plants that are effective in
treating diarrheal diseases.
