Abstract
This research aimed at finding the types of lexical cohesion and their highest
frequency in the thesis discussion section. The design was quantitative
descriptive. The objects were 16 theses written by undergraduate students of
English Department who graduated in 2019 at Bengkulu University. Data were
collected by using checklist. In data analysis, simple statistical calculations were
used. The first results show these lexical items were categorized (by Halliday And
Hasan theory 1976) into five types, namely, Repetition, Synonym, Antonym,
Hyponym, and Meronym. The second finding was that the highest frequency type
was Repetition with 396 occurrences. It was recommended the lectures, especially
those who teach discourse Analysis and writing, provide more detailed
explanation on applying cohesion.
