Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the classroom interaction categories in
English class of dormitory school based on theory Flanders Interaction Analysis
Category System (FIACS) model, the most frequent categories applied in classroom
interaction of teaching learning activities, and then the classroom interaction
categories support the SCL approach. The design of this research uses a mix method.
The subject of this research was two English teachers at Ponpes Al-Mukhlishin
Sibuhuan and English Class VIII.11. The data were collected by observing 7 times
class meeting at each teacher by using observation tally sheet, and recording by using
audio recorder. Then, the data were analyzed by using Flander’s formula, and
interaction matrix. The result turned out that for the teacher at VIII, teacher talk
(88.00%), and students talk (12.00%). It showed that classroom interaction categories
in English class of dormitory school based on theory Flanders Interaction Analysis
Category System (FIACS) model. In addition, the teacher talk was the most frequent
classroom interaction during the observation in teaching and learning process to ask
questions and lecture. It seems that the interaction among teachers and students were
not effectively established as the teacher is more active than the students.
