Abstract
Emotional Intelligence, Attitudes, and Motivation are important factors in
learning English. The aims of this research are to find out the students‟
emotional intelligence, attitude and motivation among the fast and slow
learners and to find out the differences between both groups at senior high
school in Lubuk Linggau. This study used descriptive and causal comparative
designs. The samples were the students of SMAN 7 and SMA Budi Utomo in
Lubuk Linggau Indonesia. The instrument was questionnaire. The finding
showed that fast learners mostly agreed statements mentioned in emotional
intelligence, attitudes, and motivation questionnaire while slow learners
disagreed all the statements mentioned in emotional intelligence, attitudes, and
motivation. It also showed that the students‟ Emotional Intelligence, attitudes,
and motivation among fast learners were good. Moreover, there was a
significant difference in emotional intelligence, attitudes, and motivation
between fast and slow learners. Further studies can be conducted to compare
another internal factors which can affect the students‟ English skils such as
anxiety and confidence, among senior high school students.
