Abstract

“This study aims to describe the transformational leadership of the principal in
enhancing teachers’ digital literacy at SMP Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau. Digital literacy in
this research covers digital skills, safety, culture, and ethics. The study employed a
qualitative descriptive approach to explore principals’ strategies, experiences, and
perspectives in promoting digital literacy through four dimensions of
transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual
stimulation, and individualized consideration. The findings reveal that the principal
consistently applies these four dimensions. Through idealized influence, the principal
serves as a role model in utilizing technology. Inspirational motivation is shown by
moral encouragement and appreciation, both formally and informally, which
strengthen teachers’ commitment. Intellectual stimulation is reflected in facilitating
training on Google Workspace, Canva for Education, and Quizizz, as well as
encouraging innovation competitions. Individualized consideration is demonstrated
through personal mentoring, differentiated training, and attention to teachers’ needs.
The study concludes that transformational leadership significantly improves teachers’
digital literacy, as evidenced by the diversification of digital teaching media,
increased teacher confidence, and the emergence of collaborative culture. Despite
challenges such as varying levels of digital competence and low motivation among
senior teachers, continuous training, personalized assistance, and infrastructure
support are recommended to ensure sustainable development of digital literacy in
schools.
