DIGITAL LITERACY OF ALUMNI PPG PRAJABATAN ENGLISH TEACHERS IN TEACHING ENGLISH

Digital literacy defined as the ability to acquire, assess, and generate knowledge
using diverse digital tools and platforms has become increasingly vital in
education field today. As professional teachers alumni of PPG Prajabatan,
English teachers are required to be able to implement digital literacy in teaching
English. Therefore, this study aims to reveal digital literacy levels among alumni
of PPG Prajabatan English teacher in teaching English and also to find out the
challenges and solution that faced by the alumni of PPG Prajabatan. This
research used a mixed method. The participants were 36 alumni of English
Teacher Professional Training Program (PPG Prajabatan) at University of
Bengkulu. The research used a questionnaire and interview. The quantitative data
were analyzed using descriptive statistics by calculating percentage scores.
Meanwhile, qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman
interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing
or verification. The results of this study revealed that the digital literacy
competence of PPG Prajabatan English teacher alumni was generally average.
58.33% respondents was average level, 33.33% were in the high level, and only
8.33% was low level. The highest competence was in Digital Resources (81.90%),
indicating strong ability to select and use digital materials. In addition, the
researcher also found the challenges in implementing digital literacy include; 1)
limited internet access, 2) training, 3) supports and time constraints, and 4)
teachers‟ attitude and belief. The last, this study found several solutions to
overcome challenges in implementing digital literacy; 1) Personal Internet
Connection, 2) Pre-Downloaded Digital Learning Materials, 3) Personal
Professional Development, 4) Professional Training, and 5) Blended Learning.
The researcher suggested that stakeholders strengthen structured and continuous
professional development programs focusing on the integration of digital literacy
into teaching and assessment practices.
