Abstract

The research is designed to improve the methods that can make the students learn mathematics happily , actively , thinking creatively and critically. It is also designed to find out how to make students challenged in solving mathematical problem using heuristic approach . the objective the research is to find out how the problem solving heuristic approach in mathematics can improve :1) students critical thinking, 2)students’ active learning , 3) students’ creative thinking, and 4) students’ happy learning mathematics. The subject of the research where 28 fifth-grade students of SD 9 Bengkulu. The research was collaborative research between a University lecturer and a primary school teacher working together as a team to improve professional teaching. It was a classroom action research with four components : Planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result of the research is as follows : 1) problem solving heuristic approach in elementary school mathematics learning can be conducted for problems table, making a pattern , drawing and simulation. 2) heuristic approach can help the students in improving on mathematical thinking, reasoning , communication, creative thinking, and critical thinking. 3) heuristic approach helps a teacher act as facilitator and makes students active in solving problem.
