Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify and to describe the types of the contextual meaning used in spoken text of online game entitled DotA2. The design of this research was descriptive comparative method. The corpus of this study was videos of Dota 2 gameplay – dazzle and video of Dota 2 Gameplay – Crystal Maiden taken from Youtube at “tr3oGames’s channel”. The instrument used in this research was check-list. The data were collected by using documentation method. To analyze the data, the qualitative method, including descriptive analysis and statistical, was applied. The results of this research show that the most dominant type of context used in Spoken text of Dota2 gameplay videos was object Context (44.85%), while the lowest frequency type of context used in Spoken text of Dota2 gameplay videos was context of situation (4.94%). In addition, there are some common types of context used in spoken text of Dota 2 gameplay videos were context of purpose (16,5%), mood context of speaker or listener (14,40%) and context of place (19,75%). In other hand, the rest types of context that were context of organ (0%), formal or informal context in conversation (0%), context of time (0%), context of completeness in speak or hear from speaker or listener (0%), linguistic context (0%), and context of language (0%) are not found in this research.
