Abstract

In English language classroom, teacher talk plays an essential role in the classroom interaction since it facilite students to enhance their levels of comprehension toward the learning materials that are give and further encouraged them to be more active during the learning process. By using teacher talk, students are possible to obtained new knowledge or information they needed to learn in a lesson. However, in the reality students did not actively participate in learning process. To overcome this problem, it is important for teachers needs to modify their talk by using some techniques in order to get students‟ responses. This research reported the types of teacher talk used by English teachers in the classroom. The data in this research was conducted by using mix method (qualitative and quantitative method). The research was conducted at the tenth grade of SMAN 5 Kota Bengkulu. The data were collected through video recording. The teachers‟ talk was analyzed using types FLINT by Moskowitz (1971). The research findings showed that asking question was the most commonly used category of talk by both of the teachers in English Classroom, while correcting without rejection was the least. This means that the teachers tended to use indirect influence rather than direct influence. Keywords: Teachers talk, Types of teacher talk, Foreign language interaction.
