Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the character value education and to find whether the English textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris Think Globally Act Locally” has met the eighteen character values by Ministry of National Education (2010). The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method with content analysis approach. The instruments of this study are checklist and validity check with the teacher who is teaching in junior high school. The data are collected from checklist to find out the eighteen character values education in the textbook. The result showed that the eighteen character values have already existed in the textbook. It was found curiosity (16.9%), social care (13.6%), friendliness / communication (13%), appreciation (12.4%), discipline (7.9%), creativity (6.8%), democracy (5.7%), responsibility (4.5%), honesty (4%), patriotism (2.9%), religiosity (2.9%), tolerance (2.2%), love of peace (1.7%), perseverance (1.7%), independence (1.7%), reading interest (1.1%), environmental awareness (0.5%), and nationalism (0.5%). The conclusion is that the textbook used by junior high school for ninth grade students in Bengkulu especially SMPN 7 Kota Bengkulu has met the eighteen character values by Ministry of National Education (2010), but for the further analysis should pay more attention to the implementation of the character values in the classroom activities.
