Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the process of derivational and inflectional morphemes in articles of The CNN News. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The objects of this research were three news articles of the CNN News. The data were collected from document of articles in the CNN News. The researcher analyzed the data by applying the theory of Fromkin et al (2014). From the 83 data on derivational and 209 data on inflectional morphemes, the result showed that there were 9 derivational processes and 8 inflectional processes. The types of derivational process in articles were Noun to Adjective, Verb to Noun, Adjective to Adverb, Noun to Verb, Adjective to Noun, Verb to Adjective, Noun to Noun, Verb to Verb, and Adjective to Adjective. Meanwhile, the types of inflectional processes were Simple Present Tense, Past Tense, Progressive, Past Participle, Plural, Possesive, Comparative and Superlative. In conclusion, the process of Adjective to Verb was the only derivational process which was not found based on 10 derivational processes proposed by Fromkin et al (2014).
