Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the best timing of nitrogen (N) application for improving growth and yield of soybean. An experiment was conducted at Batu Beriang Village, Pematang Tiga District, North Bengkulu Regency. The treatments were arranged in randomized complete block design involving two genotypes (13 ED and Kipas Putih) and five N application timing. N fertilizer were applied (a) at planting date (APD); (b) APD + 3 weeks after planting (3 WAP); (c) APD + 3 WAP + early flower (EF); (d) APD + 3 WAP + late flowering (LF); and (e) 3 WAP + EF. Data were analysed with anova followed by LSD to separate treatment mean. The interaction between genotype and N application timing was significant for harvesting date and pod numbers. Three times N application timing (APD + 3 WAP + LF) prolong harvesting date for both genotypes. Three times N application timing + 3 WAP + EF) was the proper N application timing for yield component and yield of line 13 ED, but N application date 3 WAP + EF showed better yield on var. Kipas Putih.
