Abstract
The objective of this research was to find out the the types of translation methods used by the sixth semester students of English Education Study Program at Bengkulu University in the academic year 2022/2023. This research used descriptive qualitative method. There were 109 students as the total population and 25 students were chosen randomly as the sample. The instruments of the research were a translation test, checklist table, and interview. The data were taken by using random sampling technique and they were analyzed by using the framework of Nababan (2008). The results of this research showed that the students only used two translation methods: Literal Translation Method and Free Translation Method, while no student used Word to Word Translation Method. The highest translation method used by the students is Literal Translation Method (23 students), followed by Free Translation Method (2 students). It could be concluded that most of the students have applied translation methods in their translating process of English texts. It was recommended that the English lecturers should pay more attention to students’ use of translation methods and find more suitable method or technique of teaching it and students should always use translating methods when translating English texts to Indonesian. Keywords: Translation method, English Education Study Program, English Department students, English text.
