Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the strategies used by the teachers in applying PowerPoint application and to describe how the teachers applied in English classes at Senior High School 2 Kota Bengkulu. This was a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this research were two English teachers who got educator‟s certification and applied PowerPoint application in teaching. The data were collected by using the observation protocol and interview protocol. The data were analyzed by using steps; reduction data, displaying data, and conclusion data. The result of the research showed that teachers used four strategies, namely; asking questions, explaining, branching presentation, and presenting interactive games. The teachers used the strategy of asking questions in order to make the students think and prepare themselves to interact with the teacher. In the strategy of explaining, it can help the teachers to interact with the students when the teachers explained the materials by PowerPoint application. After that, the strategy of branching presentation is useful to give students a choice in deciding which topic they would like to discuss. And, the strategy of presenting interactive games such as quizzes in PowerPoint application is useful to stimulate students‟ enthusiasm. From the result, it can be concluded that teachers used strategies to adjust with the material and condition of the class. Keywords: Teachers’ Strategies, PowerPoint application.
