Abstract

Reading comprehension is central to all reading engagement for students therefore in learning students must be able to read texts fluently, have prior knowledge and appropriate vocabulary, and be able to use reading strategies. The aims of this study were (1) To find out the extent to which the use project based learning can improve students' reading comprehension of analytical exposition text by using project based learning at the eleventh social one grade of SMAN 9 Musi Rawas, (2) Find out the factors that influence the students' reading comprehension changes after using Project based learning at the eleventh social one grade of SMAN 9 Musi Rawas. This Classroom Action Research study involved 30 students of the eleventh social one grade of SMAN 9 Musi Rawas. Instruments used are a reading comprehension test, observation checklist, field notes, and interview. The techniques of data analysis of this research were quantitative and qualitative. The results of the research were described as follow: (1) the improving of students' reading comprehension of analytical exposition text improved from 9 (30%) students in baseline data became 19 (63.3%) students in cycle I and it improved became 27 (90%) students in the end of the research. (2) factors that influence students' reading comprehension changes after using Project based learning were students’ motivation, student’s activeness in applying the project based learning, and students’ knowledge in applying Project-Based Learning. In short, it can be concluded that Project Based Learning can improve students’ reading comprehension and it was influenced by students’ motivation, the students’ activeness and the students’ knowledge in applying the Project- Based Learning.
