Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know skill-based needs of students' English teaching materials and to construct the english syllabus for the electrical engineering study program based on student‟s need. The population of this research was Faculty of Engineering and the sample taken in this research was in Electrical Engineering Study Program with vary of gradual semester,second semester, fourth semester, sixth semester and eight semester. Thus in stakeholder also involved in this research in order to fill secondary data. The research was conducted using descriptive quantitative method through triangulation data; questionnaires, interview and documentation. The data analyzed processed by using Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS). The result presented in tabulation data followed by description for each data. The result can be shown as follows : a) the sequence of skill demanded by students were speaking, writing, listening and reading. The highly needed topic chosen by the students was speaking. It is evident from the results of surveys, stakeholder and student interviews.b) the syllabus theme was content-based syllabus. The themes were picked by rating all of the items in the questionnaire for each skill and were highly needed by the students. Based on the detailed explanation above, the conclusion can be drawn that speaking was a highly demanded skill chosen by students and the syllabus of the undergraduate electrical engineering students based on their needs.
