Abstract

This correlation research aimed to examine the correlation between self-efficacy and student writing achievement of sixth semester of English Education Study Program at Bengkulu University. The population was 112 students from the 6th semester of the English education study program at the University of Bengkulu and the sample was 87 students with a random sampling technique. Because there are 3 classes from semester 6, 29 students are used per class. Data collection for self-efficacy was a self- efficacy questionnaire from Bandura’s theory (1977). The results of the validity test for questionnaire obtained as many as 23 valid statement items and the reliability test was 0.978. Data collection for writing achievement is to look at students' academic writing marks. Data analysis is calculated by Product Moment correlation. The results of the study show that (1) students have moderate self-efficacy, (2) students have high writing achievement, (3) with a score of 0.591, there is a moderate relationship between self-efficacy and writing achievement, and (4) with a significant value between the two variables is 0.00, so there is a significant relationship between self- efficacy and writing achievement. This showed that there is a relationship between self-efficacy and writing achievement although there are other factors that can influence the success of student writing activities. This result suggests that there are other factors that have a relationship with writing achievement that can be studied. Keywords: Self-efficacy, Writing Achievement
