Abstract

This research aimed at determining the types and the reason for code-switching in Maudy Ayunda’s vlogs based on Holmes’s theory. This research used descriptive qualitative method as the research design, the instrument was transcript and table checklist. The object of this research was the transcripts from three vlogs of Maudy Ayunda on her YouTube channel. In this study, the documentation technique was used to collect data about the types and the reason for code- switching used by Maudy Ayunda in her vlogs. The researcher analyzed the data by applying the theory by Holmes. The result showed that there were three types of code-switching used by Maudy Ayunda in her vlogs. These three types of code- switching were intersentential code-switching, intrasentential code-switching, and tag switching. In total, there were 116 data of code-switching found in Maudy Ayunda's vlogs. Intersentential code-switching was mostly used by Maudy Ayunda than other types in the data. Then the data revealed two reasons for code- switching, which were participant and solidarity. The dominant reason found was solidarity because Maudy perhaps want to strengthen ties with its Indonesian viewers and indicate that Maudy is part of Indonesian. Keywords: Code-Switching, Reason, Vlog
