Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine students‟ perceptions on the use of short video-based social media. This study was designed as a descriptive- quantitative study. The writer used an online questionnaire for this study, which included 30 questions on the questionnaire. The participants in this study were 70 students at the fifth semester of English Education Study Program, the sample were selected using simple random sampling. The result of the data obtained showed that the most students had positive perception on the use of short video- based social media. There were 67 (95,7%) students who have positive response and 3 (4,3%) who have negative response. Students agreed that short video from social media provide opportunities to improve English skills and components. Most of the students chose Vocabulary (3,82) as the ability that provide the most opportunities for the use of these media. TikTok was chosen by students as the most short videos platforms they often use to learn English; they said that TikTok is easy to access and the majority of TikTok videos are short video so that the content is shorter, clear, and more interesting.
