Abstract

This research aim to analyze the types of writing tasks in English Textbook Grade X published by Kemendikbud 2017 using the type of writing task as suggested by I. S. P. Nation's (2009) theory. This research employs a mix method technique to investigate and quantify the data found in the textbook to clarify the characteristics of the phenomenon being studied. These two methods are Descriptive Quantitative and Qualitative Content analysis. Based on the result, there are 27 writing tasks in the textbook. With 13 out of 27 writing tasks as suggested by Nations with a percentage of 48,14%. These tasks are Experience with 7 tasks (25,92%), Shared with 5 tasks (18,51%), Guided with 13 tasks (48,14%), and Independent with 2 tasks (7,41%). Almost half of writing task criteria have met the criteria of writing task as suggested by Nation. Furthermore, the study revealed that the textbook predominantly features writing tasks that carefully assist or guide the learner. Because textbooks are designed to make work easier by employing activities that carefully assist the learners, if the tasks classified as Guided tasks are much higher than other tasks, it indicates that the task is at the proper level. Thus, the researcher concluded that writing tasks in the "Bahasa Inggris" English Textbook are rated as good tasks, and students in the Tenth Grade of Senior High School should use this textbook. Keywords: Writing, Writing Task, Textbook.
