Abstract

This study aims to determine the students' difficulties in passive voice among the third-semester students of English Education at the University of Bengkulu. This study used a descriptive quantitative method. The sample from this study was 40 students in the third-semester of the English Education Study Program. The instrument used is a passive voice test and interview. This study used simple statistics (percentage and average) to analyze the data. The results of this study indicate that the majority of students experience difficulties in passive voice. Found 805 obstacles in the test. The students' difficulties themselves were difficulties in the use of “be” form (28%), V3 changes (25%) and Subject to Object Changes (14%). Students have difficulty in understanding passive voice pattern and did not know the term of passive voice themselves. Moreover, students also could not identify the subject and verb in the sentence, lacked vocabulary, did not practice often, and did not re-check the wrong answers.
