Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is the ability to understand and explore words that enable effective communication, both orally and in writing. Mastering vocabulary and learning it is not an easy thing. Students often face difficulties in memorizing and interpreting a large vocabulary. To achieve this, students need media to expand their vocabulary. In this new era, progress in the world of education has been supported by rapidly developing technology. Kahoot! is one of the well-known sites or programs that uses games to teach foreign languages. This game-based learning platform allows students to improve their vocabulary mastery. Researcher conducted research to find out how the Kahoot! by students at SMPN 7 Kota Bengkulu who are in grade 8 influences their vocabulary mastery. The design of this research is pre-experimental (one group pre-test and post-test). This research was carried out from April to May 2024. This research took place at SMPN 7, Bengkulu City. The population in this study were grade 8 students. Researcher used the purposive sampling technique for sample selection. The research sample consisted of 31 students. Researcher used multiple-choice questions to collect data. The test results are processed statistically using N-gain calculations. The results of this research show that there was an increase in the moderate category, with an N-gain value of 0.56, which is (0.3≤ Ngain ≤0.7). This shows that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an increase in students' vocabulary mastery by using the Kahoot! game application. Keywords: Kahoot! Game; Improve; Vocabulary Mastery
