Abstract

This research was a descriptive qualitative study. It was aimed to analyze the composition of High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) in Merdeka Curriculum on the compulsory English Textbook for tenth graders of Indonesian senior high schools. The researcher implemented content analysis cards and documentation as the instruments in gaining the data. The data was instructions in the exercises of the textbook which was gained throughout data collection procedures. The data was analyzed through five important processes, including: (1) arrange, (2) disassembling, (3) reassembling, (4) interpreting, and (5) conclusion. The result showed that the HOTS has lower composition than LOTS. The highest frequent among all cognitive dimension was memorize (C1). Meanwhile among those 3 cognitive dimensions of HOTS, evaluate (C5) and create (C6) was categorized as the most dominant in the textbook. Therefore, the researcher recommends this textbook to be implemented for classroom activities and also supported by other interactive teaching methods. Keywords: HOTS, textbook, cognitive
