Abstract

This study aimed to identify the dominant English learning strategies used by the National Language Ambassadors 2023 and how English learning strategies applied by National Language Ambassador 2023. Using mixed methods, 62 National Language Ambassadors were surveyed, and 4 were interviewed. The SILL questionnaire revealed the following strategy usage: memory (15.51%), cognitive (17.36%), compensation (16.26%), metacognitive (18.15%), affective (15.54%), and social (17.18%). Metacognitive strategies were the most frequently used. Interviews result showed respondents used metacognitive strategies for planning, monitoring, and evaluating learning, alongside memory, cognitive, compensation, affective, and social strategies. The conclusion highlighted metacognitive strategies as dominant with a mean score of 4.04. The study suggests learners use varied strategies, educators foster metacognitive skills, future research explore strategy impacts on specific language skills and institutions should support diverse strategies for better English education outcomes.
