Abstract

This research aims to find out the oral communication strategies used by the students of English Education Study Program in daily conversation. The researcher used descriptive quantitative as a research design. The population of this research is the Fifth Semester Students of English Education Study Program University of Bengkulu in Academic Year 2023/2024. Researcher used total sampling for this research because all of the population is sampled and at the end there are 78 students who submitted the questionnaire. The instrument of this research is a set of questionnaire contains fifteen domains of strategies which are divided into two main aspects namely strategies which are strategies of coping with speaking problems (seven strategies) and strategies of coping with listening problems (eight strategies). The data of this research is collected through link of google form and analyzed using SPSS 26 version. The results of this research show that students use all oral communication strategies to help them in their daily conversations. The most frequently used strategies were strategies to address speaking problems with an average usage of 3.1 while strategies to address listening problems showed an average of 2.9. It seems that the students employed the strategies more in speaking probably because they in daily conversations pay more attention to their performance when speaking than when listening.
