Abstract
This study aims to find out the kinds of speech act based on Levinson‘s (1983) theory and the perlocutionary effect based on Gu‘s (1993) theory that employed in ―Inside Out‖ movie. This study used qualitative method to describe the kinds of speech act and the perlocutionary effect used by the characters in ―Inside Out‖ movie which was released in 2015. Based on the results, there were 152 locutionary act, 48 illocutionary act, and 48 perlocutionary act. The finding show that locutionary act is the most frequently used in this study. While, there were six perlocutionary effect that performed by the characters, namely 1 motor reflexive response, 12 emotive response, 3 cognitive response, 2 negative response, 17 verbal response, and 13 physical response. It can be seen that verbal response is the most frequently performed by the characters in ―Inside Out‖ movie because the characters always response by verbally answer to what speaker intends.
