Abstract
This thesis aimed to identify the most used onomatopoeic word type in CRC Payne’s “Batman Wayne Family Adventures” Comic according to Bredin’s theory(1996) and to determine the meaning behind the onomatopoeia. The research applied Descriptive Qualitative since it describes the meaning behind the onomatopoeic word depending on the context. The data were from 116 chapters of the “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures“ comic. The data were analyzed based on the three types of onomatopoeia proposed by Bredin(1996), There is Direct Onomatopoeia, Associative Onomatopoeia, and Exemplary Onomatopoeia. The researcher read the comic to identify, code, and classify the types into the Table of Instrument, and the last step was deciding the meaning by the context of the story. The result of this research shows that the most used onomatopoeic word type in “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures” is Direct onomatopoeia with 102 forms of onomatopoeic word that used 276 times. Followed by Exemplary Onomatopoeia with 79 forms that were repeated 162 times. and the least used are Associative Onomatopoeia with 33 forms of word that are being used 33 times. The meaning and classification behind the onomatopoeic word in this series can be determined by the context of the story. It can be concluded that the onomatopoeic word meanings are very dependent to the context. Finally, this study is expected to enrich knowledge about what onomatopoeia and how it is used in the comic.
