Abstract

This research aims to find out how the teaching and learning process is carried out by two professional English teachers who teach class VII at SMP Negeri 13 Bengkulu City. This research only looks at three components in the teaching and learning process such as preliminary activities, core activities and closing activities with eight main indicators and twenty-seven sub-indicators implemented by English teachers. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was carried out through checklist observations. Data analysis uses formulas and descriptions, then there are four categories of Poor; Fair; Good; and Excellent. The results show that overall the three components in the teaching and learning process have an average of good quality. However, there are several sub-identifiers that are still in the fair category, namely; lack of use of learning media; lack of carrying out the final assessment; and lack of conveying the objectives to be achieved. So it can be concluded that English teachers have an understanding of the teaching and learning process even though there are still several sub-indicators that are still lacking in implementation. However, in the teaching and learning process teachers are expected to be able to optimize all sub-indicators in the learning process to obtain effective learning results.
