Abstract

The research aimed to find the effect of collaborative learning method on students’ reading comprehension. The research method of this paper was quantitative research by using quasi-experimental design. The population of the research were students of class XI MIPA at SMAN 10 Bengkulu City. In taking the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling which took all of the students in the XI MIPA 2 at SMAN 10 Bengkulu City. The instrument was a reading comprehension test in the form of pretest and posttest. The researcher analyzed the data using SPSS version 25. The result showed that there were differences in students’ reading comprehension scores of the students after they received the treatment by using collaborative learning method. Also, paired sample t-test with the value of sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000, which means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it means that collaborative learning method was effective and there is a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension. In conclusion, English teachers in senior high school can use collaborative learning method in teaching and learning activity especially in reading skill activities.
