Abstract

Research has demonstrated that young rice seedling accelerates growth and hull ashes ameliorates acidic soil. The objectives of the research were to gain information about appropriate dosages of hull ashes and about transplanting dates of local rice varieties. This research was conducted in September 2007 through February 2008 in Bengkulu City. Rice plant cv. Surya was planted at different seedling ages in pots. Split plot design was used and consisted of two factors which were seedling ages and ash hull dosages, which arranged in complete randomized block design. As main plot was seedling age which were 5, 10 on 15 days after sowing (das), whereas as sub plot was hull ash dosages which were 0; 62,5; 125 on 187,5 g pot-1 . Five das of seedling ages produced maximum tillers of 239,83 stems; however combination of 15 das of seedling ages and 187,5 g of ash hull dosages indicated highest seed number per stem (163.98).
