Abstract
Writing is one of important and communicative skills, but raster difficult to develop. The difficulties can be about grammatical and structure. However, they have learnt about this for three semester. In short, the students can show their ability in writing better if they can arrange good sentences or good grammar. The problems in this research were: how are the students’ achievements in Grammar III?, how are the students’ achievements in Writing II?, are there any significant correlation between students’ achievements in Grammar III and their achievements in Writing II?. The objectives of this research were: to know the students’ achievements in Grammar III, to know the students’ achievements in Writing II, to find out the correlation between students’ achievements in Grammar III and their achievements in Writing II. The result of this research is expected: the lecturers can give the marks of the students objectively to improve the education quality in English program Universitas Bengkulu especially in Grammar III and Writing II Subjects, can give some contributions in the development of teaching and learning process, especially in writing and grammar, especially for English department of UNIB can provide more time in learning Grammar and Writing subjects, because both subjects are closely related. This research was correlation study and the research was purposed to find the correlation between Grammar III and Writing II. The subject of this research was the student of D3 English Department of UNIB, who had taken Grammar III and Writing II subjects. The method used to take the subject of the research was total sampling. From the results of the research, it was found that the calculated –r between students’ achievements in Grammar III and those in Writing II, in the academic year 2005 was 0.84. This value was matched with the value of the critical –r found in the statistical table as equal to 0.330 on 1 level % of significance. Therefore, research hypothesis was accepted. There was a positive correlation between students’ achievements in Grammar III and those in Writing II. The strength of correlation between students’ achievements in Grammar III and those in Writing II in the academic year 2005 was 0.84 and was classified as high. From the analysis of the data during the study, the following conclusions could be forwarded: the students’ achievements in Grammar III in academic year 2005 was good, the students’ achievements in Writing II in academic year 2005 was good, and there was a highly positive significant correlation between students’ achievements in Grammar III and their achievements in Writing II.
