Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know how was the children’s Emotional Quotient (EQ) and how was the students better in EQ by their teacher’s helping. This research is survey and treatment. Subjects of this research had taken by purposive random sampling. The subjects were 131 students from elementary schools in SD 70 and SD Pekik Nyaring and 12 teachers. Data had collected by questionnaire and interview. The results were: 5% subjects had ever angry and hated to their teachers because they are talk active, hard heart, often angry to them, give too much task but they are not correct it. The subjects had ever angry to their friends because they are often hit them (42.5%), disturb them (15%), thief and press them (11%), insult them (7.5%), and the other because of stingy, arrogant, selfish, stubborn, like cheated, greedy, and often fight each others. The subjects were angry and hate to their teachers but they are just a little because they are their teachers. The 32% of students had replied their friend by the same manner, like to hit, to push them, to push their chair, or slap their face, kick them; and 17% of subjects had replied their friends with talking hard and insulting them like they do; 18.9% of subjects were quiet but they still hated them. The 6.9% of subjects reported their friends to the teachers; 6.9% of them were crying (girls), 15% of them just walking away, 3.9% of them advised their friends with a good way, and one child just say apologize to God if their friends insult her. The subject’s angry and hate loss or decrease when their friends ask apologize (53.8%), when their friends did not disturb them anymore (7.5%), try to be patient (8.8%), after they keep silent to them (4.4%), after remember their goodness (1.2%), after so long time and cooling down, after their teacher pull their ears, and one student couldn’t lose his hate. There were empathy of the students to their friends because their friend are poor (5.8%), sick (7.5%), they do not have house because of earthquake (8.8%), have no parent (5,6%), they get cruel stepfather (2.5%), abnormal (3.7%), getting accident, his mother sick in a long time, etc. Their empathy continued according their needs especially for the poor students (54.4%), make them happy by some sentences (23.1%), give them motivation (9.4%), pray to God for them (6.2%), invited to play together (3.8%), visited them when they sick (12%), and one subject just only quiet (do nothing). All of them have friendship. The characteristic for a good friends are good heart (7.5%), loyal (7.5%), care (3.1%), love to him (1.9%), did not choose friend (all the students become a friend), give so much helping to them in studying, give him motivation, want to help him when he had insulted by other friend or when he fight. By their teacher’s helping, 20 % students increase their EQ.
