Abstract

The objectives of the research were to identify the career obstacles, and to find the reason of those career obstacles existences. Using purposive sampling, total respondent was 30 female employees. The collected data were analyzed using by quantitative and qualitative methods. The career advancement of this research were position level, salary, and job satisfaction. The results show several career obstacles of female employees which are less networking (no reationship with the top manager, no relationship with supervisor, and no networking), demography/family background (married, no husband’s support, and have kids). The other career obstacles are unsuitable job skill needed, bad mentor, and disccriminative organization policy. This researcch tries to find the background of the existences of these career obstables above. Seeking the reasons is using the culture approach, hofstede’s national culture, those are power distances and culture, Indonesia have high power distances and low individualism (collective) dimensions. High power distances national culture dimension reveals the reason of demography (background family) and discriminative organizadtion policy career obstacles existences. Low individualsm (collective) national culture dimension could eplain why networking and mentor career obstacles exist.
