Abstract

Research about grooming behavior of Macaca fascicularis had been carried out from February to August 2011 in Rajolelo Botanical Garden of Bengkulu. Observation was held by using continuous sampling method in order to determine the activity of M. fascicularis after grooming, grooming partner, and the duration of grooming. The research results showed that grooming mate of M. fascicularis involved almost all levels, age and genders (either different or same sex), but between male juvenile and infant pairs. Adult males tend to do allogroming with adult females (44.5%), juvenile males with adult males (2.1%), juvenile females with adult females (2.6%), while infants with adult females (12.9%). Grooming for adult M. fascicularis was commonly did after and while feeding activity, on the other hand, grooming that involved juvenile males and females, and infants were commonly did during playing activity. Generally, autogrooming behavior was more often done by adults compared to juveniles or infants. Average time percentage for autogrooming was highest for adult females (44.16%), followed by adult males (40.91%), juvenile males (10.16%), juvenile females (4.75 %) and infants (0 %).
