Abstract

This research is aimed at examining the perception of vegetables farmers on land consevation and investigating impact their perception and behaviour toward land conservation on production. This reseach is conducted in Rejang Lebong District. One hundred fifteen respondents of this research are selected using stratified random sampling based on their land slope. Analitical descriptive method and double log models are used to analyse data gathered from face to face interview guided by questionaire. The research concludes that vegetable farmers have positive perception on land conservation. Their positive positive perception is reflected by their action in conserving their land whether by bench terrase development or growing cover trees. The research also find that all variables included in the model have an expected sign, i.e, positive, except for cover trees growing and seed application that have negative sign. However, not all of these variables are diferent from zero. Only cost of teras development, fertilizer usage, land area, eduaction and farmer motivation to conserve their land are significant factors in influencing production, while farmers perception are not.
