Abstract
This research attempted to find out the correlation between of self efficacy
and students’ speaking achievement across gender. This research was carried out
by employing quantitative correlation method. The population of this research
was the 6th semester students of English Education Study Program of University
of Bengkulu in academic year 2018/2019. The sample of this research was taken
by using total sampling technique, i.e 78 students, consists of 14 male and 64

questions related to self efficacy. To investigate the correlation between students’
self efficacy and their speaking score across gender, the researcher used SPSS
version 21. The results of this study showed that the students mostly had self
efficacy in speaking achievement. However, the direction in male students was
negative, while in female students the direction was positive. The correlation
between self efficacy and speaking achievement in female students were low
correlation, where they have high self efficacy and high speaking scores, but not
as high as male’ speaking score. On the other hand, although male students have
low self efficacy but their speaking scores were high so the correlation between
self efficacy and speaking achievement in male students was still high. In
conclusion, there were female students have high of self efficacy and high
speaking score. In addition, from the result, it was found that there was a
correlation between self efficacy and students speaking achievement both of male
and female, but the correlation was no significant.
