Abstract

The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The
objective of this research were to know what were the techniques used
by the teachers to teach Speaking in MAN 2 Kepahiang, to explore how
did the teachers implement speaking technique in MAN 2 Kepahiang. The
sample of this research were the English teachers in MAN 2 Kepahiang
from Sains class and Social class. This research used purposive sampling
technique that took two teachers in the school. The data were collected
by using observation; to know the whole condition of the classes and the
techniques used, observation checklist; to know the techniques speaking
used by the teacher based on Hayriye Kayi (2006), interview; to know
deeply about the teachers implementation about the technques, and
documentation. The result of this research showed that the techniques
that used by the teachers are discussion, role play, brainstorming,
reporting, and games. These techniques have been adapted to the
material to be taught by the teacher. In conclusion, from the twelve
techniques that proposed by Hayriye Kayi (2006) the techniques that used
by the teachers were discussion, role play, brainstorming, reporting, and
games.
