Abstract
The objective of this research were to find out the type of oral corrective feedback
that the most used by the student teachers, to know the reason of student teachers
in using particular oral corrective feedback more frequent than other types and to
know the response of the students toward the oral corrective feedback that applied
by the student teachers. The population of this research were the student teachers
of English education study program, University of Bengkulu that were practiced
teaching in order to fulfill their credit in internship 2 and grade VII students of
SMPN 15 Kota Bengkulu. This research used purposiv sampling technique that
took three student teachers who practiced teaching at SMPN 15 Kota Bengkulu
and 27 students that they taught. The data were collected by using observation
checklist, interview and questionnaire. The result of this research showed that
recast as the type of oral corrective feedback that the most frequently used by the
student teachers with the percentage 45.6% followed by explicit with 22.8%,
metalinguistic 14.0%, repetition and clarification request with 8.8% Then, the
reason of the student teachers used recast more frequent during teaching and
learning process due to recast is simple, effective and easy to use. Moreover, the
students in classroom gave the positive response toward the oral corrective
feedback that applied by the student teachers. In conclusion, it was found that the
student teachers only applied five types oral corrective feedback that proposed by
Lyster and Ranta (1997) such as recast, explicit, metalinguistic, repetition and
clarification request except elicitation.
