Abstract
The objective of this research was to find out the teachers’ strategies in teaching
reading comprehension at SMAN 9 Kota Bengkulu. This research was a quantitative
research. The subjects in this research were the English teacher at SMAN 9 Bengkulu
that teached class X, XI, and XII, there are 2 English teachers. The data were collected
by using an observation checklist. The result of the research shows that the teachers
use some strategies in teaching reading with the highest percentage are Question
Generating (27%), Encouraging the Use of Dictionaries (25%) and Question
Answering (23%). This indicates that the teachers only use limited strategies in
teaching reading comprehension. It is most likely might lead to non variability
learning, which eventually migh cause the failure or success of learning.
