Abstract
Speaking is the most crucial ability that pupils should be able to learn.
However, students who learn to speak usually experience many problems,
such as anxiety. The aims of this present study is to know about the kind of
students’ strategies when dealing with speaking anxieties.Descriptive
quantitative method was used as the research design to collect the data from
the students and present data in numerical. The data came from the fifth
semester students of English Education Study Program of University of
Bengkulu who have grade A on Speaking Presentation course. To gather the
data, this study used questionnaire consists of15 closed-ended questions.
The findings of the research revealed the students’ strategy in overcoming
anxiety also had a great power to encourage students’ motivation to practice
speaking with friends and in this study Positive Thinking was the most used
strategy by the students. It can be concluded that the majority of the students
felt that speaking English in front of their class is something they desire to
practice.
