Abstract
This research aimed to find out the types of oral corrective feedback used by English
teachers‟ on students‟ in English lesson and how do the English teachers‟ provide
oral corrective feedback in English lesson at SMPN 3 Bengkulu City. This research
was mixed method. The samples of this research were three English teachers. The
data were collected by using observation checklist and interview. The observation
checklist has been validated by using expert judgment. The result of this research
showed that English teachers used five of six types of oral corrective feedback, they
were; Recast, Clarification Request, Elicitation, Repetition, and Explicit Correction.
While, the types that did not used was; Paralinguistic Signal. In delivering oral
corrective feedback, English teachers use several ways, there were; directly
correcting student mistakes without inform their mistakes, throwing the mistake at
other students to correct, asking students to repeat their words using certain words,
saying the correct part of the student's speech then the student himself who continues,
giving options to the student concerned mistakes that occur, pronounce errors from
student speech so that students realize their mistakes and then the students themselves
correct the mistakes, provide student mistakes then immediately provide their
corrections, and use hand movements and facial expressions to provide student errors
in the form of grammar and pronunciation. Therefore, for the next research, the
researcher suggest to conducted research about oral corrective feedback with the
more samples, to find out the students' responses to oral corrective feedback provide
by the English teacher, and to conducted research at senior high school level.
