writing achievement, especially in recount text. Therefore, the effect to be seen from
this study is the extent to which Project Based Learning that is effective on writing
achievement of 8th grade students of SMPN 8 of Bengkulu City. This research uses
Quasi Experimental Design. This research involved 63 students, grades 8.1 and 8.4 of
SMPN 8. Data were analyzed using a scoring rubric, normality test, homogeneity test,
paired sample t-test, and independent sample t-test. This study found that the writing
skills of students in class 8.1 (experimental class) increased with the Project Based
Learning model with an increase in the average score of the experimental class, namely
46.84 in the pre-test and 66.81 in the post-test. Significant differences between
experimental classes were shown through the data collected from the post-test. The
post-test results increased significantly in the experimental class. Students are more
active in writing and their writing techniques improve. The results of the t-test also
show that Project Based Learning shows significant results in improving students'
writing skills, especially in recount text. The significance (Sig.) in paired sample t-test
of the pre-test and post-test of the experimental class shows a result of 0.000. Therefore,
Ha was accepted.
