Abstract

This research aimed at finding the grammatical knowledge in terms of subject
verb agreement knowledge in conclusion section of undergraduate theses by
English Education Study Program in University of Bengkulu. This research used
descriptive qualitative as the research design. The objects of this research were 30
undergraduate theses of English Students that have graduated in 2022. The
instrument of this research was documentation checklist. The data were collected
by using documentation. The reliability of the instrument was checked by
researcher using spss software. The researcher was helped by a co rater in analyzing
the data. The result of documentation checklist between researcher and co rater was
reliable and consistent. It was found that the students’ knowledge of subject verb
agreement was 88% and the error was 12%. The result of the Documentation
Checklist showed that the subject verb agreement knowledge of students was very
good, even though there were still several the incorrect sentences from all of the
theses. Most of the errors found were the incorrect usage of verb based on the
subject. The main reason of student’s error in subject verb agreement was first
language interference. Based on the findings, all the students have to pay attention
in the use of correct grammar especially in subject verb agreement in writing their
theses.
