Abstract

The purpose of recognizing rhetorical organization is to assist writers such as
students, practitioners, and academicians in learning how to produce good writing
and persuade their readers to comprehend their arguments especially in introduction
section of theses. This study aims to provide an overview of the findings of a study
that explores move and step the rhetorical organization of the introduction section of
undergraduate theses at English Education Study Program year 2023. This study
employed descriptive quantitative to describe the rhetorical organization of the
introduction section of undergraduate theses at English Education Department Study
Program year 2023. The finding shows that move-steps which commonly found with
highest frequency are Move 1 Step 1 (Claiming centrality or value of research area),
Move 1 Step 3 (Reviewing items of previous research), and Move 3 step 1
(Announcing present research). This is implied in introduction difference proportion
in theses in the fields of English language teaching, linguistic study, and literature
study by English Education Study Program Year 2023.This study also pointed out
that in the undergraduate theses reports students at English study program year 2023
five move-steps are categorized as obligatory, meanwhile sixteen move-steps are
categorized as optional.
