Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of slang words and the function of slang
words in "Kingsman: The Golden Circle". The method used in this research is
descriptive qualitative research. The data is analysed by using Chapman (2007) &
Zhou (2013) theory to find the types of slang words and function. Archives
dictionary.com to discover the meaning of slang words. The results of this study
are determined based on the use of daily conversation by the 5 characters that appear
the most. There are 24 primary data and 4 secondary data. And the researcher found
all types of function based on the situation that occurred in the movie. As for the
functions contained in the movie, all types of functions were found with the
dominant Emotive Feeling, followed by Achieving Politeness and Pursuit of Self�identity. Emotive feeling related to intimacy is found more, because every dialogue
reflects the speaker's feelings. In conclusion, slang words itself is widely used by
Kingsman characters: The Golden Circle to describe their expressions of anger and
intimacy, which makes the conversation more lively with spontaneous dialog.
Showing intimacy through the use of slang words helps the audience to recognise
the intimacy of the relationship between characters. In other words, slang words are
not only words that show swearing but also represent intimacy between speakers in
the community of speakers.
