Abstract
The aim of this research was to find out the types of speech acts employed by Elon
Musk on Joe Rogan podcast based on Searle's theory. This research used descriptive
qualitative method. In gathering data, researcher used checklist.The primary source of
the data is the broadcast and transcript of the podcast. The frequencies of each
category are Declarative, Representative, Expressive, Directive, Commisive. The
result revealed that Representative has 110 uttarances, Declarative 9 uttarances, 35
uttarances for Expressive, 16 uttarance for Directive and Commisive has 11
uttarances.The researcher found that the most frequently used of Speech act is
Representative. It might be due to in podcast hosts and guests often make statements
that perform actions, for instance, when a host introduces a guest, they are not just
stating a fact, they are performing the act of introduction, which has social
significance.
