Abstract
The objectives of this research were to investigate the translation
techniques used in Cars 2 movie, and to find out the dominant translation
techniques used in Cars 2 movie. Based on the analysis, 1199 sentences were
analyzed to find the translation technique. These research used documentation and
tables as instrument. These translation techniques include Addition with total
frequency 234 times (19.6%), Subtraction with total frequency 353 times (29.4%),
and Alteration with total frequency 612 times (51%). Among the three translation
techniques, the researcher found that alteration is the dominant used translation
technique in "Cars 2" movie with a total frequency of 612 times. All
classifications in alteration are found in "Cars 2" movie, where semantic problems
involving exocentric expressions is the most frequently used with a total
frequency of 210 times. This research concluded be used in the cases of changing
a word class to another word class but also can be used in the case of changing a
word with a word expression to make the reader understand better and without
changing the original meaniing at all.
