Abstract
This research discusses the person deixis and contextual reference
meaning used by Taylor Swift in the Talkshow with Jimmy Fallon on YouTube
on November 26, 2022, which aims to find out the types of person deixis used
by Taylor Swift in her conversation with Jimmy Fallon. The researcher used a
qualitative method with content analysis, data was obtained from transcripts of
the Tonight Starring Jimmy Fallon show, and a classification instrument table
was used to collect data. The data was analyzed using Levinson's (1983)
classification of person deixis theory. This research reveals the types of person
deixis used by Taylor Swift, the data occurrence of each type is 200 first-person
data, 53 second-person data, and 59 third-person data. They are further divided
into types as subject and object. The data occurrence of person deixis as subject
263, and person deixis as object 46. Contextual references meaning of each type
of person deixis is also described as the result. It can be concluded that in the
Talkshow, the first-person deixis type is more dominant, because Talkshow
usually focuses on the guest star, in this case Taylor Swift.
