Abstract

This research aims to find out the meta-discourse markers in reading passages of
the English textbook Merdeka Curriculum entitled Pathway to English for 10th-
grade senior high school students published by Erlangga publisher. The data of this
qualitative research are collected from 25 reading passages. The result of this study
indicates that the most dominant interactive markers used in the textbook are
transition markers, with a total frequency of 163, and the most dominant
interactional markers used in this textbook are self-mention, with a total frequency
of 77 markers. The research's findings are intended to be beneficial for students,
teachers and further research. This study may be valuable for English students to
gain knowledge about meta-discourse markers, which will help them enhance their
reading comprehension. Furthermore, the research is expected to yield new results
that can contribute to education and linguistics language research.
