Abstract
English textbook published by the Merdeka Curriculum consists of Pancasila
Student Profiles to strengthen Pancasila-based character education. However,
English textbooks published by various publishers tend to display western cultural
values which can also reduce the character values of Pancasila. For this reason, this
research was carried out with the aim of finding out the extent to which Pancasila
student profile values are integrated in English textbooks, and to find out teachers'
views on books that integrate Pancasila Student Profile values. This research used
mixed methods with data sources from two eleventh grade English textbooks and 3
English teachers who use English books published by the Ministry of Education
and Culture and the Erlangga publisher. The research instrument are document
analysis checklist and interview regarding Pancasila values which have been
integrated in the book used. The first research results show that the book entitled
Bahasa Inggris XI published by the Ministry of Education and Culture is less
integrated (40%) and the book entitled Pathway to English XI published by
Erlangga is quite integrated (60%). Meanwhile, the average integrated Pancasila
student profile values in the two books are less integrated (50). Secondly, the result
of teacher interviews show that the students' Pancasila profile values are less
integrated, this is because the integration of Pancasila student profile values in
exercises, reading texts and especially in illustrations are less concrete and less
varied in the application of the Pancasila value profile in everyday life. In
conclusion, the integrated level of the Pancasila student profile in the two English
textbooks is on average less integrated in the illustration, exercise and content
section. This research recommends that book authors can increase the frequency of
presence of Pancasila student profile values in books, within in the part of content,
exercise and especially in the visual part.
